are said to be beyond the reach of natural reason, yet this knowledge of God through the natural light of reason is considered so important that Rome condemns anyone who denies that we can know the one, only, true God, our creator and Lord, from created reality by means of reason.8 That which the Vatican Council clearly defined had been generally held by Roman Catholic theologians for centuries. It seems, then, that there can hardly be any disagreement as to what Rome means by natural theology:
